Research and inspiration
During the Research & Inspiration phase of the MoveIt app development, our focus was on creating a mood board and swiftly conducting a competitive analysis to guide our design choices:
Created a curated collection of images, color palettes, fonts, UI features, and interactive designs that embody the vision for MoveIt.
Drew inspiration from prominent design platforms, fitness communities, and lifestyle blogs to capture the essence of a vibrant, health-centered user experience.
Integrated motivational visuals and ambitious fitness objectives to resonate with our personal aspirations for a wellness-oriented lifestyle.
The mood board acted as a visual catalyst for the design team, offering a concrete reference for the app's aesthetic and emotional atmosphere.

Personas
Contexual scenario
Contexual scenario of our personas Jarno and how he uses MoveIt app in a real life scenario in the future. This show how our workout app is used in an optimal way, and discribe the technical needs of the app and smart device.
Jarno starts his weekday early. By 7 AM, he's already on his second cup of coffee, skimming through his emails, and preparing for a day filled with meetings. Despite the tight schedule, Jarno is determined not to let his fitness slide. He's found a sliver of time before his 9 AM video conference for a quick workout.
Throughout the day, amidst his tasks, Jarno occasionally glances at his smartwatch. The MoveIt app periodically displays his resting heart rate, ensuring he's not overstressing. It's these little nudges, these bits of information at a glance, that keep Jarno motivated and mindful about his health.
He flicks his wrist to wake his smartwatch and taps on the MoveIt app icon. With a few swipes, he selects a 20- minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) session. It's a chest workout today, perfect for the brief time he has. As he begins, his watch vibrates gently, a silent reminder that he's on the right track, keeping his heart rate in the optimal zone.
Later, as he returns home and has more time, Jarno delves into the mobile version of the MoveIt app on his phone. Here, he reviews his progress in greater detail, checking over the past weeks' data and planning his exercise regimen for the rest of the week. The app's intuitive interface on his phone allows him to deep dive into his health analytics, giving him the bigger picture of his fitness journey.
Post-workout, Jarno quickly showers and jumps into his work attire. As he takes his seat in front of his computer, his smartwatch pings. It's the MoveIt app, displaying a summary of his morning activity – 20 minutes, 230 kcal burned, and an average heart rate of 145 bpm. He smiles, satisfied with staying on top of his fitness goals even amidst the morning rush.
This evening, he's determined to include his family in his fitness routine. After dinner, Jarno, his wife, and their two kids take a brisk jogging around the neighbourhood, Jarno's smartwatch silently tracking their steps. Fitness isn't just a personal goal; it's a lifestyle choice that he's nurturing within his family, and MoveIt is there to make it happen, one step, one beat, one day at a time.

Sketches
Brainstorming sessions accompanied by quick sketching. The collaborative nature of sketching brought diverse perspectives to the table, allowing us to refine concepts and enhance usability before committing to more detailed designs.
NUF test
Mobile app
The NUF test was used to evaluated ideas from our sketches before moving to low-fidelity prototyping.
We voted for the best ideas in the sketches and the features we felt most confident in.
Tocomplete the voting, we evaluated the novelty, usefulness, and feasibility for each element.
The 'Search and find a workout' feature scored highly in both usefulness and feasibility, showing it's a needed function and easy to implement. 'Starting the workout' and 'Seeing workout instructions' provided an engaging user experience. 'Completing the workout' with its tracking capabilities, was both useful and feasible, supporting user goals of monitoring progress.
NUF test
Smart watch
For our MoveIt app's SmartWatch component, we conducted an NUF test to assess each feature's impact:
Uniqueness: We evaluated feature distinctiveness by focusing on interactions and data presentation, ensuring MoveIt's competitive edge.
Practicality: We assessed if features could be realistically implemented within smartwatch limitations, considering factors like screen size, processing, and budget.
Utility: We scrutinized if features met persona Jarno's real needs, enhancing his fitness journey. Each feature underwent evaluation based on these criteria to prioritise inclusion in the prototype, aiming for a well-rounded user experience. perience while seamlessly integrating with the iPhone app for Jarno.

Summarize
When designing the MoveIt mobile and smartwatch apps, we meticulously followed visual design guidelines to create a coherent and user-friendly interface.
For the smartwatch app, we focused on simplicity and readability, incorporating larger icons and text for quick information delivery to support the mobile application.
The mobile app emphasized a clear visual hierarchy and accessible design, with careful consideration of color contrast and tap target sizes.
Both designs were customized for each platform, following Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for the smartwatch and responsive design best practices for mobile devices of different sizes and orientations. Moving forward with the MoveIt design, we will enhance the high-fidelity wireframes during prototype development, making iterative improvements based on usability testing. This iterative approach will refine the user interface, ensuring intuitive navigation on both mobile and smartwatch platforms.
By sticking to platform-specific visual design guidelines, our goal is to create a seamless, visually appealing, and robust user experience. Feedback from usability tests will steer our design decisions, enhancing the aesthetics and practicality of MoveIt.
